Meet Lindsay Kirby

About Lindsay

Lindsay is a local illustrator and artist, and has exhibited her work at Globe Galley and Zapato Gallery, as well as teaching a Beginners Drawing & Painting class here at the studio!

Lindsay originally trained in Surface Pattern design at foundation level in Leeds and then went on to gain a BA (Hons) degree in Printed Textiles at Loughborough College of Art. After studying, Lindsay initially worked as a textile designer in London, and then experimented with lots of different exciting ventures, such as living in Greece, working in bookshops in York and London, whilst still finding time to get in touch with her creative side and creating fantastic freelance artwork.

After being recommended to a manager at a greeting card company based in London, Lindsay soon found herself working for Tigerprint for 13 creative years of designing exciting new cards, gift bags and wrap, christmas decorations and toys for M&S - all from their studio in Brighouse! As Lindsay continued to create joyful illustrations for the likes of UK Greetings (you may have seen these in stores such as Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda) and Card Factory, Lindsay eventually became freelance full-time. If you live within the local area, you may also spot Lindsay’s beautiful window paintings at shops and businesses around Huddersfield!

With the help of Creative Sparrow Art Agency, Lindsay has continued to create her amazing designs for Calypso, Noel Tatt, The Original Poster Company and many more.

Lindsay’s art influences

Lindsay’s magical and radiant artwork is inspired by a number of focuses - such as folklore, fairytales, and the natural world! As a mixed-media artist, Lindsay works with a wide range of materials to create her stunning landscapes and characters. Through a combination of drawing, painting, collaging and stitching, Lindsay’s work has a ‘storytelling’ element to it, and are the perfect addition to brighten any home and add a little bit of charm!

Where can you find Lindsay at Globe Arts Studio?

You can find Lindsay at our Thursday morning Beginners Drawing & Painting class, helping clients develop their skills and blossom with confidence, no matter their previous art experience! At her lovely and relaxed class, Lindsay has a new and exciting focus each week to push clients out of their comfort zone and experiment with new techniques. A steady and relaxed pace, friendly faces, and the perfect way to spend your Thursday morning to brighten up your week!

Although initially feeling daunted when Jackie suggested that Lindsay should use her creative experience to help encourage people with little art experience to get creative and build up their painting skills, Lindsay is now an amazing part of the Globe Arts team, and has helped so many people develop their own unique styles.

“I had never even thought of teaching before and I don't think I ever would have if it weren't for Jackie and Zoe giving me not only the opportunity but also the support and encouragement along the way. It is a really friendly, kind and nuturing space to work in and I am thrilled to have been a little part of Globe Arts over the last few years. I am excited to see what brilliant new creative opportunities there will be with the new premises and how it will offer something even more Globe-esque to the local community.”
