Our Story

Globe Arts Studio was created in 2014, with a vision of delivering high quality, engaging and accessible art and craft classes and workshops. We had no permanent home and delivered workshops across different venues, fast forward 10 years and we have the most wonderful Studio location at the heart of a fantastic village community here in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire.

Due to an ever-growing clientele, we have recently expanded by opening our second site at Holme Mills, between Slaithwaite and Marsden! We are always grateful (and welcome!) volunteers who help Globe Arts be the best that it can be! Fancy volunteering? Find more info below!

Hi I’m Jackie, Creative Director here at Globe Arts Studio. For as long as I can recall, Ive wanted to build my own independent Art School and have been lucky enough to achieve this. Globe Arts has grown into a superb teaching facility, Gallery and Artist Studios where we support 18 micro businesses. Proud? Very!

As Creative Director I recruit, lead and support our tutors, ensuring high quality teaching and you’ll always find me in the thick of it, teaching courses in Drawing and Painting, Life drawing, Fused Glass and Printmaking. I curate Globe Gallery with varied exhibitions by local artists throughout the year and work closely with our studio holders on collaborative projects and events.

I graduated with a Fine Art degree in 1991 and held a studio for a while in Brighton. In 1995 I gained my PGCE and have enjoyed a long and varied career working in high schools and colleges. I’ve never grown tired of teaching - its in my bones you might say!

It’s a pure privilege to work along side passionate, dedicated and talented Globees who have unwavering determination and strength. I simply love my job!

Zoe , Globee Manager & Creative Director

Jackie , Lead Tutor & Creative Director

Hi, I’m Zoe, I manage all of the ‘Globees’ and freelance staff here at Globe Arts!

I teach beginners Fused Glass and Stained Glass adult classes, plus private tuition for home schooled youngsters. I have a special interest in fostering positive mental health and wellbeing, and lead on inclusion and additional needs.

Jackie taught me Art from Year 7 up to the end of 6th Form and influenced my decision to study Art further at Batley School of Art. I completed a Foundation Diploma, followed by a Degree in Fine Art for Design where I dabbled in everything from Print to Textiles, to Film & Photography.

Myself and Jackie have a small Fused Glass business, called Globe Studio Glass, and in any spare time we get, we create distinctive kitchenware and homeware.

I began my role here at Globe Arts as a volunteer and slowly over the past 10 years I have become a full time Globee. I adore my job! It’s my aim to help Globe Arts become the greatest independent Art School around, I hope you will visit us to see for yourself how great it is!

How we’ve grown!

Our Globee team now includes regular tutors and freelance artists delivering everything from drawing and painting, printmaking and jewellery to textiles and fused glass across our two sites. Plus we host a rolling programme of contemporary exhibitions!

Globe Gallery is a high quality venue for exhibiting work by respected artists, including those local to the area and serves as an exhibition hub for emerging talent. We are also home to 11 residents running creative micro-businesses from the building - proud!
