Meet Byron Jones

Meet Byron! Our fantastic Junior Art Club and Young Creatives tutor, who also brightens up Globe Arts with his fantastic eco-focussed workshops!

Byron has been a part of Globe Arts Studio of 2017 - and what a huge part of the team he is!

About Byron

Byron has lived in Huddersfield for over 10 years now, and is a huge fan of anything nature, wildlife and art related! Whether it be crafting in the garden, getting stuck into some DIY or playing with essential oils, Byron loves all thing practical - meaning that he has constantly been coming up with new and exciting topics for our Young Creatives and Junior Art Club.

Art influences

“I’ve always been creative, making things out of wood and drawing. I remember getting one of those big foldable children packs of art materials and a plastic potters wheel….the wheel did not work!

I always did art at school but never really thought about it as a carer. With no plans for after school, I was recommended to do a Foundation Degree in Art. I missed the deadline for Leeds Art College and just managed to apply to York College, and from there naturally went to uni and ended up in Huddersfield doing Contemporary Art.”

During his time studying at uni, Byron found his art gravitating to contemporary sculptures and some multi-media pieces. “The work was heavily influenced or dictated by found objects which were used to create the sculptures. I found interesting the relationship between people’s discarded objects and their return to nature (albeit on the side of the road or in a bush). The precarious positioning of the sculptures highlight the balance between natural resources and consumerism.”

Byron is always keeping his fantastic art skills up-to-scratch by regularly attending life drawing classes, as well as sketching people and architecture in his sketchbook that he has with him at all times! We’re even lucky enough to have Byron submit his pieces to our Summer Exhibitions! Byron has also had exhibitions at Brighouse Art Festival, Unnaway in Huddersfield and Vyner Street Gallery in London.

Where can you find Byron at Globe Arts Studio?

Byron has been one of the Saturday Art Club tutors for a long time now - but sadly our Young Creatives and Junior Art Club will be saying goodbye to Byron at the end of July. However, Byron will still be at the studio for some evening adult workshops that are yet to be announced, and a BRAND NEW exciting workshop coming up… Jesmonite pots & homemade candles!

Starting Thursday 6th June, join Holly to make your own candle holder from jesmonite! On Thursday 13th June, you’ll work alongside Byron as you explore aromatherapy, melting soy wax to create your own homemade candle, using essential oils to create a personalised scent!

You’ll also be able to find Byron “technician-ing” for some of our other freelance tutors!
