Meet Frances Noon

About Frances

Frances is one of our tutors and studio holders at Globe Arts Studio. Whether it be part of our Summer Exhibition, Christmas Art Markets or in the Gallery, we are always overjoyed to have Frances’ incredible work at Globe Arts Studio.

Frances first worked with us in Summer of 2014, and has since joined us for her incredible Jewellery-Making courses, as well as workshops and short courses for Collograph Printmaking and Mixed Media.

Frances graduated with a Fine Art Degree from Leeds Polytechnic in the 80s, and then went on to complete a Post Graduate and Masters in Printmaking at the Wimbledon School of Art in 1991. “My work was always figurative and I made images about people and their everyday lives”.

Frances continued to practice her skills as a printmaker for several years whilst sharing her knowledge and creativity at a variety of colleges, as well as museums and galleries (and even a shopping centre!).

In 2007, Frances began creating her fantastic jewellery, which she has been selling for around 12 years since retiring from teaching.

Frances’ work is truly extraordinary - ranging from birds, to cats, to owls, crafted from silver, with details of copper and bronze. But Frances’ work does not stop there, as she has even moved on to create sculptural pieces, and wall pieces - we felt very lucky to have Frances’ incredible “The World as I See it” exhibition in our Globe Gallery. “I see myself as an image maker and I am presenting my observation of life.”

When Frances isn’t busy creating artwork in her studio, she is spending time in her garden. Frances loves growing new plants, fruit and vegetables in her new greenhouse.

Frances’ Artist Influences

“I like to make things that make people happy, things that would maybe put a smile on your face.
I find inspiration in all kind of situations. Initially it was just garden birds as these are creatures I see everyday.

My shed wall-works developed literally when I had a light bulb moment looking out of my workshop window, at a shed  ( we have 4 sheds in our garden ) I thought about re-creating it as a flattened 3d piece.

Boats, Lighthouses, Beach huts, are all inspired by seaside holidays. The Windpumps are derived from those I saw after a holiday on the Norfolk Broads. Currently I am working on a set of derelict barn /outbuilding type structures as wall pieces. Since my days on my allotment I have always loved the make shift sheds and greenhouses that people have on their plots, so these pieces are a celebration of that.”

Where can you find Frances at Globe Arts Studio?

Frances is always a part of our Christmas Art Markets and Summer Exhibitions - we’re also very honoured to have her share her expertise in the form of courses and workshops.

In January, Frances is running a 6-week Jewellery-Making workshop. We’re also looking forward to Frances joining us for her Mini Metal Sculptures workshop, where you can create little animal sculptural pieces inspired by Frances, as well as her “Birds and Bees” jewellery workshop, where you can craft animal-inspired pendants with Frances’ guidance.
