Meet Penny Lucker

About Penny

Penny joined the Globe family in April 2024, and has made a huge difference in such a short amount of time. She has recently stepped away from a 30 year career working as a nurse in the NHS. Penny has always been someone who has enjoyed a creative output in her life, from a side hustle drawing 80’s cartoon characters with permanent markers on her school friends jeans, to hair braiding and friendship bracelet making in college. Penny later went on to take a Btec in jewellery making while her children were small and set up a successful small online business making personalised silver jewellery along side her nursing career.  As her family grew she returned to nursing full-time but her creativeness was always evident in her practice.

Penny is local and loves being out in nature (as long as its not raining !), has a passion for yoga and is a keen mental health and wellness advocate.  She enjoys all types of art and craft making, but illustration and pattern making are two of her particular passions.

Art influences

Penny loves colour and her work is often inspired by bright bold and beautiful colours, she enjoys working with lots of different types of medium and thrives on being experimental. She likes to take inspiration from the world around her, from nature (particularly flowers and animals), social media, everyday objects, even the mundane. Hockney, Yayoi Kusama , Orla Kiely, Sam Cox ( aka Mr Doodle) are some of her many eclectic influences.

Her nursing background gives her a wealth of experience of working with young people and vulnerable adults. Penny has a keen interest in using art to help build confidence, mindfulness and neuro regulation. She likes to encourage and feed imaginations within her sessions, her knowledge and understanding of neurodiverse and sensory issues allows her to make adjustments to her teaching to accommodate those that require additional support and adjustments. She firmly believes in the mental health benefits of art and loves to encourage individuals to engage in art whatever their skill level. This September she will start studying for her Holistic integrated creative arts therapy practitioner qualification which she is really excited about and is looking forward to implementing within in her art teachings.
