If you want to be playful, experimental and ‘let’s see what happens’ with your drawing, then this new course at Globe Arts may just be the one for you.
Whether you are a seasoned or freshly minted drawer / painter, this new series of classes will be a creative journey through expressive, gestural and abstract approaches to image making.
This taught class will be centred around a couple of key prompts for each block of teaching. Initially, the blocks will be 3 weeks long [a weekly class, starting Mon 22nd April, 6.30-8.30pm] and the first focus will be… Circles & Translucency.
Exploring mark making, getting messy with materials, trialling a range of grounds, using colour in a clear manner and making sketchbooks will be key features.
Expressive drawing will enable you to play with drawn marks in a loose and uncomplex manner, it is fun and can be mindfully absorbing.
Nicola’s approach to teaching is positive, spirited, engaging, clear and experimental, whilst also being organised, supportive and directive when needed.

Join Zoe Gale for this specialist workshop in fused glass, producing a house number plate to be used indoors or outdoors
We will email you 14 days before the workshop to prepare your numbers and colours, then on the day, you will decorate a background, and place the number(s) on top.
You will have the choice on the day to pick the pre-made numbers, or make your own (this will result in your piece taking a couple of extra weeks)
Zoe will show you a few different styles and finishes, and at the end of the 3 hour workshop, you'll leave your pieces with us to go in the kiln, then they'll be ready for collection in around 3-4 weeks time.

Natural Dye Course w. Kayleigh Davis
Join Kayleigh for this brand new 6 week natural dye course to be delivered here at Globe Arts - over the course of the growing season. The sessions will be accessible and suitable for participants to come to as many as they feel without the obligation of coming to every session. (You must however do the 1st one, in addition to any extras, just so you have the complete understanding of tools, techniques and language used throughout)
The sessions will follow the growing schedule of seasonally available plants.
Each session lasts 3 hours on Thursday evenings, to cover all there is to know about growing, foraging and dyeing with plant-based pigments.
The course contents will be broken down as follows:
· Week one: Preparing fabrics for natural dyeing
A hands-on introduction to creating successful prints. Natural dyes will not work without correctly prepared fabrics. This session will cover selecting fabrics, scouring and mordanting.
· Week two: Natural Dye basics
Learn how to turn plants into pigments. This hands-on session will cover how to create a successful dye bath using dye plants and food waste. Using cotton, we will cover basic dye techniques such as dip dyeing and tie-dyeing.
· Week three: Growing natural dyes
Natural dyes can be grown at home! Learn about planning and growing a dye garden with a session at Globe Arts. Learn which plants will be suitable, growing schedules, and how to harvest, dry and store dyes for year-round use. This session will involve drawing dye plants as we design our own dye gardens using mixed materials. You will also be given a helpful garden planning sheet to take home.
· Week four: Bundle Dyeing and Hapa Zome
Create your own designs on fabric by learning the popular technique of bundle dyeing. Learn how to steam plants into cloth to create beautiful pieces. Whilst the bundles are in the pot, we will explore Hapa Zome – the art of hammering plants into cloth. Learn which plants are suitable and top tips to create crisp prints.
· Week five: Foraging for natural dyes
Explore found natural dyes on a relaxing foraging walk around Globe’s surrounding green areas. Learn which local plants are safe to forage and how to do so responsibly to create beautiful textiles. We will then create a dye bath using foraged dyes.
· Week six: Upcycle your wardrobe
This sustainable session encourages people to bring something made of white cotton or silk, e.g. a t-shirt, shorts, or a pillowcase. They will learn how to scour, mordant and dye their item using natural dyes to breathe new life into it!

Artist Jo Blaker will get you drawing with a range of materials, trying new ideas & exploring your interpretation of the season.
This session starts with an hour of drawing from seasonal objects or sources. Our model arrives at 11am when we transition to drawing the figure. We usually explore short, quick exploratory exercises initially.
Collaborative exercises have been especially popular so weave these in to as many sessions as we can. Expect playful, exciting drawing challenges that take you out of your comfort zone & take your work in unexpected directions.
The length of this session ensures time to share & discuss our work and that we can take breaks where we need them and let ourselves really sink into the experience and savour it. Screenprinted Fused Glass Coasters
Join Zoe for this BRAND NEW one off workshop, mixing 2 of her favourite things - screen printing and fused glass!
With Zoe’s guidance, unleash your creativity as you create marvellously unique coasters or a candle arch! This fun, relaxed and chatty workshop is the perfect way to unwind after work!
Choose between making; 2 x 10x10cm coasters or 1 x 15x15cm cande arch
Choose from our range of 20+ silk screens, with images like poppy fields, butterflies, fish, trees and hedgehogs.
Firstly we will screen print your chosen design onto a sheet of glass, in black or white ink,
then we mask up, and use powdered glass, to create a single or multicoloured background.
At the end of the workshop, we will fuse the coasters/ candle arch, and email you when they're ready to collect.
Please note; the coasters will take roughly 7 working days, and the candle arch needs 2 firings, to achieve the shape, so will take upto 14 working days.

Leather Slipper workshop w. Cathy Edwards
Join Catherine Edwards here at Globe Arts Studio for a full day 6 hour workshop making yourself - or the adventurous creative in your life - a pair of gorgeous slippers, in plenty of time for Christmas!!
Learn to cut your own patterns to the size you require and use them to trace onto top grade unwaxed leather, then cut out and mark up for stitching.
You will be using the traditional Saddlers’ two handed sewing technique to stitch your slippers together and add a small heel. With your finished slippers as a size guide, create your own envelope style storage bag using super soft suede and attach a hand rolled leather toggle to fasten.
The making process is completed entirely by hand using genuine leatherworking tools including vintage and antique pieces from the tutors own collection.
Suitable for beginners or the more experienced, work with beautiful leather, covering a range of skills, with tools and materials provided, techniques include cutting to pattern, hand stitching, and colour matching fabrics for upper and outer pieces.
Working in a small, friendly group with lots of individual attention, supervised individually by Catherine, this inspiring one-day workshop is a great way to introduce yourself to working with leather.
Catherine Edwards trained as a boot and shoemaker. working for many years before a residency at the royal armouries, which led to the production of her first collection of unique leather goods.

Stained Glass Decorations w. Zoe

Create your own miniature plant pots with artist and maker Kim Searle using a variety of geometric and recycled moulds.
Jesmonite was named material of the year 2017, have a go and see why! It's a versatile material that will create a different pot every time - you'll learn how to weigh it, mix it, add colours and textural effects to create a pot unique to you.
Pots can be made with pale pastels or vibrant colours, block colours or fantastic marbled effects.
You will get to try a type of Jesmonite that will set by the end of the session as well as another type that will set the next day and has a much more organic look.

Wreath Making for Adults - XMAS SATURDAY WORKSHOP
Join Jackie and Zoe for this 2 hour workshop, making your very own natural wreath that will last til Christmas!
You will learn how to shape your willow/withies, find the best techniques to decorate, and choose from a whole variety of beautiful foliage, plus ribbons, wires, dried fruits, baubles and much more!
We have 2 time slots available on the day, 3 - 4.30pm, or 6 - 7.30pm. Why not make a day of it and spend a lovely afternoon in our beautiful little village, Slaithwaite. Theres lots of shops to browse, places to eat/drink, and our canal is perfect for a fresh autumnal walk!
Macrame Decorations w. Kim Searle - XMAS WORKSHOP
Join Kim Searle and make your own beautiful Macrame Decorations for the tree, or to hang off of the fireplace or in your window.
In this one off workshop, you will learn the skill of macrame, with Kim’s fantastic tips and tricks for creating up to 3 stunning pieces in just 3 hours!

Leather Slipper workshop w. Cathy Edwards

Join Catherine Edwards here at Globe Arts Studio for a full day 6 hour workshop making yourself - or the adventurous creative in your life - a pair of gorgeous slippers, in plenty of time for Christmas!!
Learn to cut your own patterns to the size you require and use them to trace onto top grade unwaxed leather, then cut out and mark up for stitching.
You will be using the traditional Saddlers’ two handed sewing technique to stitch your slippers together and add a small heel. With your finished slippers as a size guide, create your own envelope style storage bag using super soft suede and attach a hand rolled leather toggle to fasten.
The making process is completed entirely by hand using genuine leatherworking tools including vintage and antique pieces from the tutors own collection.
Suitable for beginners or the more experienced, work with beautiful leather, covering a range of skills, with tools and materials provided, techniques include cutting to pattern, hand stitching, and colour matching fabrics for upper and outer pieces.
Working in a small, friendly group with lots of individual attention, supervised individually by catherine, this inspiring one-day workshop is a great way to introduce yourself to working with leather.
Catherine Edwards trained as a boot and shoemaker. working for many years before a residency at the royal armouries, which led to the production of her first collection of unique leather goods.

At this workshop, you can work with a range of different materials provided to create your own unique Christmas cards, just in time to send them out to loved ones over the festive period!
You can also make Christmas ornaments/garlands.

Quirky Illustration Workshop w. Trace Illustration
Join the lovely Trace and have a go at drawing and painting in your own quirky style, using Trace's work as inspiration!
She will have a whole bunch of examples to inspire you, Christmas themed and everyday art, including her cards, prints and wall hangings!
The workshop will start with a demonstration from the artists, showing you how to use ink and stick, and watercolour paints.
Christmas fused glass decorations family workshop
Join Zoe & Jackie with your family and make your very own set of fused glass Christmas tree decorations!
We have 2 time slots available throughout the day;
2 - 3.30pm
4 - 5.30pm
Decorate your tree with different coloured frit and stringers, together as a family. Suitable for 5 years +, and all participants must be comfortable with wearing safety goggles.
Leave your creations with us to go in the kiln. Once they’ve been fired, we'll add string so you can hang them on your Christmas Tree!! This will take us a couple of weeks and we will send you an email when they are ready to collect.

Fused Glass Giant Snowflake - XMAS WORKSHOP
Join Zoe and make your very own Giant Snowflake window decoration made from glass!
In this 2 hour fused glass workshop, you will create a beautiful, unique centrepiece for your Christmas display.
You will learn how to cut glass, construction and decoration, then leave them with us to go through the kiln! We will then contact you when your creations are ready to be collected.

Fused Glass Candle Arch - XMAS WORKSHOP
Join Zoe in this 1.5 hour workshop where you will design and decorate a sheet of glass - using glass materials, which we will then slump into an arch, for a tealight to shine behind.
We have a number of specialist techniques to show you, and lots of lovely examples for you to get a feel for how the finished products turn out!
All materials, tuition and tea/coffee are included within the price, and if you want to bring a friend, choose our group ticket for £5 off pp.
Family Halloween Decoupage @ Zapato

Family Pumpkin Carving 3-4pm
Come and join us for Family Pumpkin Carving, where you can take your carved pumpkin away, ready to display inside or outside your home for Halloween!
This event is for kids aged 8+, and each child will receive their own pumpkin to carve! (there will be 1 pumpkin to be shared between 1 child and 1 adult)
We will have the pumpkins and materials waiting here for you!
