Drawing and Painting Mondays and Saturdays

Weekly art class during term time. Develop a range of skills using wet and dry media, progress from beginner to intermediate. We theme the course such as still life, portraiture, landscape, or you are welcome to work on your own project if you prefer - contact us to find out what we are currently working towards.

Mondays begin 24th April and Saturdays begins 3rd June

Date/Time: Mondays 10am to 11.30am and Saturdays 11am to 12.30pm - term time only

Fused Glass Evening course

katies bowlLearn the basic techniques of fused glass making, or develop your skills further in our term time evening class - perfect to experiment and create your own small project pieces.  You will learn a variety of fusing methods and materials including frits, confetti, stringer and inclusions.

Suitable for beginners and those will some fused glass experience, and includes all tuition, equipment, materials (significant glass stock included with the option to purchase additional glass if needed for large projects). 

Dates/Time:  Thursdays term time 6.30pm to 8pm

Life Drawing Evening course

Develop a wide range of fundamental techniques using wet and dry media.  Friendly atmosphere, small class size, experienced tutor, and a variety of models, all abilities welcome from beginners to those wishing to develop their practise.  All tuition, materials and equipment are provided.  Five to Seven week blocks during term time.

 

Date/Time: Tuesdays at 6.30pm to 8.30pm term time - final block before September begins 25th April

Cost: £75 for 5 week block (£15 per session equivalent) or pay weekly £18

Ceramics evening class

Working with  resident ceramicist, Ammie Flexen.  Our Ceramics course is the perfect opportunity to unwind whilst working with clay.  You will learn a variety of techniques, including pinch, coil and moulded forms, creating your own small pieces to decorate with slips and glazes.

Suitable for beginners and those who enjoy working with clay. All materials, equipment, firing and tuition is included.  We limit our class sizes to ensure a relaxed, friendly environment with plenty of one to one support available.

Dates/Times:  Wednesday term time from 7pm to 9pm - next block begins 26th April

Drawing Basics

Our Drawing Basics short course, continues from Thursday 27th April - this term, our Creative Director, Jackie Harrowsmith leads the course.

It's an opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence through the medium of drawing and give yourself permission to get creative.  This is a friendly, relaxed class which includes full tuition, materials, equipment and refreshments.

Times/Dates:  Thursdays 10am to 11.30am from 27th April (5 week blocks)

Cost:  £50 block (includes sketch book and drawing pencils) or £10 per session (materials provided, sketch book/pencils can be purchased). 

NB - if you are continuing and don't need an extra sketch book/pencils there is a discount on the course fee

Introduction to Stained Glass with Diane Mellor

Our brand new Thursday Stained Glass evening class is tutored by Diane Mellor, an experienced and talented glass artist.  She lead you through the basics of working with the glass and equipment, learning the techniques involved in making creating your own stained glass pieces.

All tuition, materials and equipment, and refreshments are included in this short introductary course

Wednesday Workshops

Our Wednesday Workshops are the perfect mid-week wind down.  Join us for an evening of art and craft, each session we will be a new technique, and the hour and a half gives you time to try out the technique - a great introduction to a new skill!

All materials, equipment and refreshments are included at the session.  Come along with a friend or on your own for an creative, calming evening.

Craftanoon – Mind Charity Event

Craftanoon means getting together with friends, having fun and raising some money for Mind.

We've team up for a joint event with our neighbours, Simply Solids.  Join us and explore some crafting techniques (we'll have batik and silk painting available - maybe more!), learn something new, make something to take home and chat over coffee and cake!

There is a small charge for the event to cover materials and refreshments, and we are asking for donations on the day to support the work that Mind do in supporting people experiencing mental health issues.

Batik Weekend Workshop

Back by popular demand, our introduction to Batik workshop returning on Saturday 29th April at 2pm to 3.30pm.  Learn the basic skills of drawing with wax, to create your own unique piece to take home.

ArtTalk with Dr Tom Ratcliffe

Dr Tom Ratcliffe, highly knowledgeable local art historian, returns this May with his engaging talk "Picturing the Person: Who do we think they are?"

In this talk, Tom will examine a wide chronological look at the conventions of portraiture. Including works like Holbein’s ‘Ambassadors’, Tom will ask how we read the identity of the sitter? Do we really expect the artist to concentrate on a likeness or are we really viewing a sophisticated arrangement of signs and symbols that encode deeper and often more profound meanings? The presentation will last for about an hour and it is hoped that the audience will engage in lively discussion.

Time/Date:  Thursday 4th May at 6.30pm

Our First Saturday workshops are the perfect opportunity to develop a new skill each month, working alongside a talented, local artist.  The half day sessions give an insight into each artists specialist technique, giving you chance to explore and experiment their techniques.

Each 3 hour workshop includes all tuition, materials, use of specialist equipment and refreshments.

Lego after school club

Our brand new after school club led by Bricks4Kids continues on the 24th April

Bricks4Kidz classes provide an extraordinary atmosphere for children, where we learn, we build, we play… with LEGO® Bricks. Programmes are built around our proprietary model plans, designed by engineers and architects, with exciting themes such as space, construction, and amusement parks. Our specially designed project kits and theme-based models provide the building blocks for the Bricks4Kidz approach to educational play.

Mini Messy Makers – pre-school art class

Our weekly class for pre-school age babies and children.  The children explore different art activities, giving them a chance to really express themselves. Each week the class is themed and your child will get chance to create there own Mini Masterpiece to take home.  Best of all we clear up instead of you!!

Getting creative (and a little bit messy) isn't just lots of fun... the creation of art and feeling good about it helps to boost self confidence and children who feel able to experiment and to make mistakes feel free to invent new ways of thinking, which extends well beyond the art studio.

Create Art Club – after school art class

Our new after school art class for over 5s begins on Wednesday 1st March. We'll be creating and introducing a whole host of art and craft techniques - class starts at 4pm to 5pm, but you are free to drop you child from the school run from 3.30pm.  Book individual classes or for the half term.

Around the World in 46 hours – after school art club

Our new after school art club on Thursdays is especially for children 8 years who will benefit from smaller class size and extra support.  Over the course of club we will be exploring art from around the world.  We ensure a high staff to child ratio, and aim to create a comfortable space for your child to feel confident, secure and have fun whilst learning new skills and creating fabulous personal art pieces to take home.

The club is highly subsidised by Kirklees Community Partnerships.  Places are very limited so booking is essential.

Weekly, term-time art club for children over 4 years old. 

We run 5/6 week blocks, developing technical art and craft skills, all children will be registered and can work towards Arts Award Explore which provides a broad structure to the art club.  We ensure the children create alongside merging artists who inspire and enthuse.  Our staff include experienced teachers, with DBS and first aid.

2016/17 dates:  4th March to 1st April (5 weeks); 29th April to 27th May (5 weeks); 10th June to 15th July

4 to 7 years:  Saturdays 9.30am to 10.30am (£7.50 per session)

Family Workshops

Family friendly sessions are an opportunity to make and create together.  We run them most months and we try out a different medium each workshop - could be ceramics or felting or drawing or 3D...

We explore a different technique at each session, so there is always new things to try.  It's a great way to spend an afternoon together and there is always something to take home!

Jane Howroyd of Arts4All, returns this year with a series of family and adult workshops introducing a host of craft activities:

8th April 10am to 11.30am  (£6 per person) Easter Rabbit/Hare head wall mounts, constructed from cardboard and wall mounts. The session will also include a range of other fun Easter and spring crafts suitable for all ages from age 1 up.

29th July 10am to 11.30am (£6 per person) Storying Telling Stones - as a family make a collection of storytelling stones and a chance to have a go at telling stories using them, as well as the chance to make summer inspired crafts and images including rainbow collages.

21st October 10am to 11.30am  (£6 per person) Votive Tealight Holders - get together as a family and create some Halloween inspired votive tea light holders as well as other Halloween crafts

23rd December 10am to 11.30am (£6 per person) Family Christmas wreath making session and other Christmas activities.  Create a wreath using natural materials and other Christmas crafts including the chance to do some fun Christmas painting and collage using real spices

1st and 8th December 6.30pm to 8pm (£20 per person) Adult wreath making workshop.  A relaxing evening making your own wreath using natural materials as well as the chance to learn how to make willow stars for decorating your wreath; topped off with mince pies and hot drinks!
