Join Dr Tom Ratcliffe for the first of his art history talks...
This talk will examine a number of modern approaches to the subject of the figure, using a range of well-known images from the mid-19th century to the present day. The aim will be to review a range of techniques and considerations that are in the forefront of the representation of a subject that has been a constant concern for artists. Light and shade, colour, composition, meaning and the use of materials and techniques will form a part of this presentation which hopefully will present practical hints for the budding and experienced artist.
Tom Ratcliffe is an Art Historian and Artist with many years of research and work as a practical artist to his credit. He has been working as a freelance lecturer since he completed his doctorate in 2010, which centred on abstract painting in England immediately after WWII. However, he has taught Art History in schools and is currently principal examiner for Art History at AQA, a large examining board. He has always considered that art history is fundamental to the development of the’ intelligent eye’ and that we cannot function as artists without understanding our own historical position in relation to that of others.

David returns with a full day digital photograhy workshop aimed at taking great images of your own creations. Perfect for makers and artists - get the most out of your digital camera, concentrating on composition and lighting to really bring out the quality of your work.

We will look the best way to photograph paintings and drawings and also how to build a tabletop home studio for 3D works such as ceramics, glass and jewellery.
