Meet Lauren Bower

About Lauren

Lauren joined the Globe Arts team in September 2024, when we officially opened the doors of our new Globe 2 space for our brand new courses and workshops, and has made a huge impact already as our Glass and Ceramics technician and tutor. Jackie and Lauren both met during their teaching at Kirklees College, where Lauren works part-time as a Multi-skilled Technician and Demonstrator. At Kirklees College, Lauren works with teenagers and young adults to help them develop their skills in a range of creative subjects, including 3D Art, Digital Art & Design and textiles. Lauren also runs ‘The Maker Hub’ - a fantastic creative suite of laser cutters, vinyl cutters and a range of printers to allow students to create prototypes of their designs, as well as accomplish their final pieces.

With her expertise in ceramics, Lauren helps adults increase their confidence in sculpting with clay in her Beginners Ceramics class, a community learning program ran through Kirklees College.

Before joining Kirklees College and Globe Arts, Lauren studied ‘Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design’ at Leeds Art University, specialising in digital design and 3D castled tiles - this led Lauren to create her own personal collection of homeware as part of her own business ‘LJB Designs’… you may have spotted her fantastic work in our studio! Through LJB Designs, Lauren loves focusing on geometric forms and exploring the boundaries between form and function using 3D printing as well as traditional casting techniques.

Artist Influences

“I think for me, process is the most important part of creating. I find 3D processes such as mould-making so satisfying as there are multiple stages and different skills needed, and then even after all that you still don’t know if the result will turn out how you want it to. I feel like I produce my best work when I’m not trying to create a final outcome.

Where can you find Lauren at Globe Arts Studio?

You can often find Lauren guiding her ‘Hand Build Ceramics for Beginners’ classes on Monday afternoons or Wednesday evenings, as well as overseeing our Personal Practice slots for our glass and ceramics members. Lauren can also be found loading and unloading kilns, glazing pieces from ceramics classes or preparing materials for our glass and ceramics classes. In other words - she is a huge part of our Globe 2 team!

Fun facts about Lauren

Lauren’s fantastic creations led to her winning the Yorkshire Young Trader of the Year Award in 2022 for the National Market Traders Federation!

When Lauren isn’t at Globe 2, she can be found practicing and performing with her band Dark Corners! (you may have seen her singing at our previous Christmas Art Markets!)
