Globe Christmas Market and Open Studios 2022

On Saturday the 3rd of December 2022, Globe is hosting a Christmas market and open studios event. Here, we meet some of the creatives who make up Globe’s vibrant studio community and will be there on the day.

Arty Explorers

We are a pre-school arts studio based right next door to Globe Arts, running classes, workshops and parties for babies to pre-school aged children. On the morning of the 3rd of December we will be running our Toddler & Pre-School Winter Wonderland class, bookable on our website, then from 1pm to 4pm in the afternoon the studio will be open for creating little one’s Christmas keepsakes. We have canvas and plates to create footprint and handprint Christmas keepsake crafts.

Dan Booth

I'm a printmaker who specialises in screen printing - I've been screen printing since 2011. The prints I create start life as photographs. Subject matter includes landscapes, trees and local landmarks. The Colne Valley, Huddersfield and West Yorkshire provide a lot of inspiration! I produce screen prints of a more abstract nature too, inspired by op art, minimalism and happy accidents in the studio. I'm looking forward to welcoming visitors to my studio for the Christmas Open Studios. I'll have a selection of prints and cards available to buy. Find me on Instagram @designartnonsense and see my work on Artfinder.

Jo Blaker

I am a visual artist and educator, whose drawing practice is rooted in a playful approach to materials and a love of observation. The influence of natural forms, rhythms and cycles can be seen across my work, including my current sketchbook series of drawings made in the Colne Valley. I hold an MA in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art and share the curiosity and creativity at the heart of my practice through workshops at some of West Yorkshire’s leading cultural venues. In my studio at Globe, I host seasonal drawing workshops and I am developing a new program of life drawing sessions. In 2021, I set up an Urban Sketch group for Huddersfield and I also run the HuddersWild Facebook group, promoting opportunities for nature connectedness in Huddersfield.

Lisa Stubbs

I'm an illustrator, printmaker, educator and chocolate taster, not necessarily in that order! My practice is based on play and experimentation with process, inspired by the world around me. Find me on Instagram @lisastubbs5

Nicola Perren

I am a freelance designer, maker and lecturer with 20 years of experience in textiles, drawing and craft. My work plays with abstract forms and pattern while being expressive with colour and takes various forms, from paintings to quilts, and artefacts to stitched drawings.  For the Globe Christmas art market I will be holding an open studio where you can see some of my current work in progress and have a chat. There will also be limited edition items to purchase, including bags, prints and textiles (ready for your own making projects). Find out more about my work on my Instagram.

Otso: seen in Scandinavian folklore as the bear spirit; the king of the woods - our friend, brother and forest cousin.

Otso is a nature inspired fashion brand that is both contemporary and socially responsible. A fantastic fit in an urban or outdoor landscape.

Otso is in touch with the people of our planet. We collaborate creatively with friends whilst promoting ethical manufacturing standards and environmental issues both locally and globally. Our garments are produced in India and the UK to FairWear ethical standards and then screen printed and finished locally by hand in Slaithwaite. This ensures families abroad are paid an honest living wage whilst also supporting other local independent businesses.

You can buy Otso clothing online and at our studio.

We are currently open to the public from 10-4, Tuesday-Saturday. There is more information, plus our entire product and price list on our website zeroyorkshire.co.uk. Take a look, or check us out on Instagram or Facebook.
