The Ella Dawson Foundation was established as a legacy to Ella Dawson and the life she lived well and to continue the work she started in helping other young adults with a cancer diagnosis

Ella was a successful 24 year old aspiring artist with a great passion for travel, nature, yoga and love for life and people! In August 2019, whilst travelling in Colombia, shortly after graduating from Newcastle University, Ella was diagnosed with PH+ ALL, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer. In 2019, to help others who found themselves with a similar diagnosis, Ella created a successful blog of her health journey including advice on nutrition, exercise and staying positive during treatment.

The Ella Dawson Foundation provides a safe supportive and uplifting space where young adults with cancer, and their families, can access tailored physical, psychological, emotional, nutritional, wellbeing support within a welcoming and like – minded community.

The Ella Dawson Foundation is working alongside a team of experts to enable young adults, aged 18-30 yrs old, to access tailored wellbeing support packages unique to their needs at any stage of their cancer diagnosis.

‘My Life is Amazing’

In August 2021 we presented ‘My Life is Amazing’, celebrating the life and works of Ella.

Ella’s work contemplates ideas such as matter, materiality, time, duration, and spatiality, while working intuitively with textile and colour. She develops her own imagery and language of colour through sustained and varied experimental resulting in an ambitious and skilfully produced body of work. Ella combines her affinity of textiles and paint whilst always including her love of drawing and mark making.

Ella moved into her own art studio in Slaithwaite and launched her own art website in 2020, elladawsonartist.co.uk. The website displays her work and many commissions she produced for clients throughout the UK.

Ella was truly inspiration, a beautiful person inside and out with a warm heart and even warmer smile. She loved life and was grateful for every day. She touched and inspired everyone she met and was determined never to let cancer define who she was. In that she succeeded.

Despite increasing illness and a dire prognosis, Ella continued to produce outstanding art right up to the very end. As she was making art Ella often listened to music and, remarkably, only two weeks before she died, Ella produced a Spotify playlist which she entitled ‘My Life is Amazing…” reflecting her gratitude for life.

In tribute to a wonderful person and flourishing artist and in her own words - My Life is Amazing… Ella Dawson.
