Join Zoe S over at Globe 2 for our latest ceramic course- throwing on the wheel!
WHO: Taught by Zoe Stainton, this course is perfect for beginners and intermediates, and is a small intimate group with a maximum of 6 places per term, to ensure you get the proper guidance and tuition needed.
WHAT: Learn the exciting art of throwing on the potter's wheel. You will develop the skills to throw your own pots in just a few weeks; learning how to centre the clay, open out the shape, pull up the walls and control the form. You will also learn how to apply glazes before your creations are fired in the kiln.
During week 1, 2 & 3 we will be making and shaping our pieces
During week 4 we will be focussing on trimming our pieces to achieve a crisp finish
On week 5 we will decorate with glazes and other details
And on our final week, you should have something to take home as creations will have gone through the kiln, and you can continue making any finishing touches to any other ongoing pieces.
(Please note - the course price includes up to 3 pieces per term, you can pay extra if you want to fire and glaze more pieces, which can be paid for at the end of term to the technician on shift)
WHERE: Globe 2
WHEN: 10-12pm Fridays, 6 weeks £160
WHY: Believe it or not, it's a good physical workout as you use your arm muscles to “wedge” the clay (to get air bubbles out), and your core muscles to remain steady, especially when trying to center clay on the wheel. It's a whole body feeling and once you get used to it you can lose yourself in a dreamlike state!
